    Heroku +> Salesforce

This story must be written as one of best stories of Silicon Valley. Y-combinator based company , raised totally 13m$ with 2 seed rounds, has made “exit” with selling for 212m$ in cash ( by SalesForce ).

Some history lesson: SalesForce CEO & founder Marc Benoiff ( former executive at Oracle ) created first “cloud” -based application. It was real actual cloud. Access from anywhere, rich-features. ( And that back to 1999 ). It is still named “best cloud-based CRM solution”. With about 3000 physical server virtualized to one BIG cloud server it is used by enormous number of users, that is growing up and is ( or even had ) reached 1 million.  For last 2 years SalesForce acquired JigSaw ( SaaS contacts management & marketing leads ). Created force.com , chatter & database.com ( aired last week ) - all are “level down” - from SaaS to PaaS , moving salesforce to new customers , emerging great help for enterprise to it’s cloud move.

Ruby on Rails , that was extracted from Basecamp development , known for uses at popular web services as twitter , yellow pages & lots more is working out-of-box framework and as one of main concepts of Web 2.0. Only heroku is servin more than 100k of apps. Other hosting providers as Linode , Slicehost & Media Temple ( IMHO 3 best vps providers ) are also well-known for hosting rails apps. Some people do really tell that RoR is enterprise-ready, though i still don’t support that idea.

Heroku developers rock ! Up-to-day they use amazon aws infrastructure , but they have created something really amazing - concept of dynos & workers. Dyno - is working core , for simpler use - HTTP responder. Worker is background working process ( simpler - back-end ). They also bring us special optimization of EC2 units for database. Most people, that are familiar with SQL problems of high availability are gonna really like. It’s not amazon RDS , not Xeround master-master engine, not haproxy. It’s cloud for cloud.

So , what’s next ? Will Heroku support Java ( main enteprise lang ) ? Or Salesforce support Ruby ? I honestly think - second. Time will show.

    p.s. Byron Sebastian - congrats !
